I LOVE planting a garden, especially now that my children like to help! It is a fun, outdoor activity that teaches our children many different aspects of life and is actually a fabulous sensory activity. We can’t always be outside in our garden but we can do activities based on that fun we have. This Garden Count and Color is so much fun and can easily help children with number recognition and counting in a very exciting, hands on way.

How To

After printing out the free printable, give it to your child.

Children can choose which colors to color with, a rainbow theme would be fun. The first option is to just let the children color the numbers as they wish, in any order they prefer. You can go over the number that they are coloring and as they go, count from 1 to that number.

The other option is to roll a dice. When you roll a number, have the child color that number. Our favorite dice are large foam dice, they are quiet and fun! You can also have children count from 1 to that number as they color.
A third option is to follow the beginning of these two options and then have the child fill each number in with different patterns. This could include stripes, dots, or whatever pattern the child decides.
