One of the first things that toddlers or preschoolers learn is shapes and colors. We teach them the basics and then eventually they learn the more advanced. I loved when my daughter learned the basic shapes and started pointing things out while we were in the car or at the park. It’s so exciting to watch them learn and grow and this Free Printable Shape & Color Recognition Matching Game can help!
Free Printable Shape & Color Recognition Matching Game
This activity is a simple one but can be so much fun. We like to use games like this for family game night, a rainy day inside activity or when we’re travelling. It’s perfect to set up on a hotel bed, but didn’t take much space in the suitcase at all!
How To Use:
Scroll down to download and print the game.
My suggestion is to print on cardstock. This is because on regular printer paper, the shapes and colors can be seen through the back of the paper. If you look at the picture below, you will see what I mean.
After I have them printed, I cut each square out and laminate. This preserves the game, but is not required.
Next mix the cards around so that the matches aren’t super close to each other. Turn them all picture side down and place in even rows.
Take turns flipping over two cards each. If the two cards match, put them in your match pile. If they don’t match, turn them back over and return them into play.
Once all of the matches have been found and no cards are left, whoever has the most matches wins. Sometimes we play to win, sometimes we just play to have fun. Whatever works in your family is what you should do!
