February is the month of love and we are learning so much this month with these learning through play activities in the box this month! We discover our letters, numbers and colors with 4 different themes: kings and queens, hearts, desserts and volcanos.

 

 

Hearts Theme

  1. Heart Shape Painting- Use the cookie cutter and dip into paint. Then stamp on the paper.
  2. Heart Desk Caddy- Use the paint and/or markers and decorate the desk caddy to store all your markers or crayons in.
  3. Counting Hearts- Cut the cards apart. Recognize the number on the card and place that many heart buttons on it.  
  4. Tissue Paper Hearts- Tear up the tissue paper, roll in a ball and place on the hearts. When dry, hang them up.

Kings & Queens Theme

  1. Glitter Shapes- Put glue on each of the shapes. Sprinkle glitter on them.
  2. Crown Counting- Cut the cards apart. Choose one card at a time and recognize the number on the card. Place that many “jewels” on the crown.
  3. Build an Ice Castle- Use the cups and fill ¾ full with water. When frozen, pop out and place in a pile. Have your child build an ice castle. If you’re feeling extra adventurous, you can add some of the glitter to the water before you freeze it to make it a sparkly castle.
  4. Decorate a Crown- Use the markers and decorate your crown.

Desserts Theme

  1. Cookie Counting- Recognize the number on the page and add that many chocolate chips to the cookies.
  2. Doughnut Patterning- Make patterns with the doughnuts using the following patterns:

          Tots and Level 1- ABABAB

          Level 2- ABBAABBA

          Level 3- ABBCABBC

  1. Pie Counting- Write numbers on each pie according to your child’s level. Have them add that many scoops of whipped cream to the pie.
  2. Cake Counting- Cut the cards apart. Place in a pile. Pick one card at a time and add that many candles to the “cake”.

Volcano Theme

  1. Make a Volcano-  Use the sculpt it  and shape a volcano. (This may need to be done by the parent.) Let dry. When dry, sprinkle the baking powder in the volcano and pour a little bit of the vinegar in and watch your volcano explode.
  2. Letter V Search- Find all the shapes, letters or sight words and cover with a bingo dot.
  3. Volcano Counting- Use a clothespin and pick up a pom pom. Dip in the red paint. Recognize the number on the page and add that many fire balls to the volcano.
  4. Volcano Making- Paint the volcano. Rinse the paintbrush off and then paint glue on the top of the paper. Place the tissue paper on the glue.
